Terms & Conditions
Last updated: September 3, 2026
These are the terms for using ShelfScanner. By using it you agree to them; if you do not, please do not use it.
What ShelfScanner is
ShelfScanner reads the books in a photo of a shelf and recommends some of them to you based on the preferences you give it. It is free, and it is a hobby project run by one person.
Recommendations
The books are read and chosen by AI models. They can misread a spine, invent a title, or recommend a book you will not like. Treat the picks as suggestions, not facts, and check a book before you buy or borrow it.
What you upload
Upload only photos you have the right to use. Do not upload photos of people, documents or anything that is not a bookshelf. By uploading a photo you allow us to process it to produce recommendations and to keep it as the privacy policy says.
Fair use
ShelfScanner is for people scanning their own shelves. Each device gets a small number of scans per hour, and there is a daily budget for the whole app; when either is reached, scans are refused until it resets. Do not scan automatically, work around the limits, or try to access another device's scans or list.
Availability
ShelfScanner is provided as is, with no promise that it will be available, accurate or free of errors. It may change or stop at any time without notice.
Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, ShelfScanner and the person who runs it are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of it or from any recommendation it makes.
Changes
When these terms change, the new ones appear here with a new date at the top. Using ShelfScanner after that means you accept them.
